When we talk about extinct birds, one name comes up in front of us, that is the dodo bird. We are the only reason why the dodo bird is not with us today. Because of our activities this beautiful bird is gone from us. However, an American genetic company is trying to bring back this extinct bird. We will discuss whether this attempt will be successful.
The dodo bird was a big flightless bird. They are native to the Indian Ocean Mauritius island. This giant bird found on the island of the Indian Ocean disappeared in the middle of the 17th century.
It was 1 meter tall and weighed around 23-25 kg. The bird was first discovered by Portuguese sailors in 1507. After the sighting, hunting the bird and eating its meat is very pleasant, and after that the extinction of the dodo begins. After that a group of people go to the island of Mauritius and start shooting all the eggs to suit their pet. In the 17th century they completely disappeared by humans.
Now a Colossal Bioscience company planned to bring them back through DNA research. The company has already worked on reintroducing mammoths and physicians using genetic technology. Colossal Bioscience is an American company working on genetic engineering.
Recently the company announced, “In addition to the dodo, we may see dinosaurs roaming the streets in the future. This is a long process, it is not certain whether animals that have disappeared due to genetic technology will be able to return to Earth, but efforts are underway. The project has been funded to the tune of USD 15 crore.”
The last dodo bird died in 1681, according to the Britannica website. If this discovery is successful, this new chapter is expected to open. However, along with all these technologies there is a need to preserve the currently extinct animals.
