A total of 14 tiger reserves in India have received the conservation assured award, Madumalai and Anamalai in Tamil Nadu being among the 14.
India has a total of 53 tiger reserves in 2022. And out of these 53 tiger reserves, 5 are located in Tamilnadu state of India.
1. Anamalai Tiger Reserve: From Anamalai hills to western ghat, this tiger reserve is India's 25th global biodiversity hotspot.
2. Mudumalai Tiger Reserve: The Tiger Reserve is very popular as the name Mudumalai is beautiful enough. Mudumalai means old mountains.
3. Kalakkad - Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve: This tiger reserve was formed in 1988 by amalgamating the Kalakkad and Mundanthurai wildlife reserves.
4. Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve: According to the 2019 census, there are 90 tigers and 111 leopards. It is a part of Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve.
5. Srivilliputhur Megamalai Tiger Reserve: Srivilliputhur Megamalai Tiger Reserve (SMTR) was created in February 2021 covering Srivilliputtur and Megamalai.
