Total 8 tiger counting cameras destroyed in Sunderban by some bad people. The Forest Department Said, total 8 cameras were placed in Sunderban to count how many tigers were left in Sunderban but some bad people vandalized those 8 cameras.
Burigoalini station officer (SO) of Sundarban Satkhira range Nurul Alam also said, “eight cameras installed to see the tiger population growth or to protect the tiger have been destroyed, which are no longer usable.”
Station Officer Nurul Alam said that the work of counting tigers started from January 2023, which is still going on. The eight cameras have been installed on big trees, small trees and in different areas in Sunderban.
“Of these, 376 cameras were installed in the Satkhira range, but eight cameras installed in the Notabene sanctuary area were destroyed by some bad people. There are indications that some people thought that Sunderban fishermen were involved in this incident.” (AKM Iqbal Hossain)
Satkhira Range Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) AKM Iqbal Hossain said, “Out of the eight cameras that were installed, some parts of the cameras were found broken and parts of some cameras were not found. However, they were stolen or some other incident happened. The truth is not known. Those who were involved must be found.”
He said that after the recent incident of finding dead tigers and tiger skins, the entry of fishermen in some areas of Sundarban Satkhira range has been banned for a few days.
However, among the four stations in the Satkhira range, fishermen are being allowed to go to the Sundarbans through Kobadak and Burigoalini stations, said the forest official.
